Big Sky Tree Care is a locally-owned, customer focused tree service company that provides a wide range of tree care services in Southwest Montana. We specialize in supporting tree health, and aim to cultivate long term relationships with our customers to provide top-tier care for your trees and property. We operate to ANSI A300 standards, which is industry standard for tree care and safety operations.

It depends! Most trees do not need permits to remove, but depending on tree location, you might. If the tree is in a boulevard or located in a riparian area along a waterway, or if you are part of an HOA, you may need a permit. If this is the case, we will support you in any approval processes that are needed. 

Prices vary from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars. This depends upon access, location, tree integrity, and other factors that all come into account through our quoting process. The best way to learn how much tree support will cost is to request a free site consultation. 

The best time to prune trees is in cooler months, which are less stressful for trees. We recommend pruning trees either in early spring before the trees leaf out, or in the fall, once the tree prepares for dormancy in colder months. We do not typically recommend pruning trees in high heat, but we will advise on the best time to prune your trees during your on-site consultation.

Pruning and supporting positive growth is always our preference. Removal is always a last resort. In most cases, a diseased, damaged, or structurally compromised trees can be saved or made safer through pruning, or adding supports with cabling or bracing. We will assess the tree in person and walk you through all available options prior to recommending next steps.

Cabling and bracing are support mechanisms installed in trees with weak branch unions, co-dominant stems, or potentially heavy overhanging limbs. Cabling & bracing are good options for supporting mature or older trees where removal would be a significant loss to your property. We can assess whether your tree is a good candidate for this during our visit to your property.

In Montana, you have the right to prune your neighbors trees up to your property line, as long as you're not causing irreparable damage to the integrity of the tree. It's our responsibility to support the tree, and it's also our preference to respect your space and relationship with your neighbors. Give us a call to discuss what is best for you.
